  8.  AB    The risks associated with handling sharps are well known but it is less
  9.        clear why accidents occur. This study aimed to determine how often
  10.        sharps are used by nurses, the usual procedures associated with
  11.        disposal, the identification of unsafe practices and any factors such as
  12.        heavy workload or lack of resources which could be associated with
  13.        accidents. The results overall were encouraging although unsafe
  14.        practices were witnessed that were totally unnecessary.
