AB The risks associated with handling sharps are well known but it is less
clear why accidents occur. This study aimed to determine how often
sharps are used by nurses, the usual procedures associated with
disposal, the identification of unsafe practices and any factors such as
heavy workload or lack of resources which could be associated with
accidents. The results overall were encouraging although unsafe
practices were witnessed that were totally unnecessary.
